Nicole Ramirez

Head Coach, Nutrition Coach

BIOGRAPHY

Nicole is a compassionate and energetic Certified Nutrition Coach, Wellcoaches Certified Health & Wellness Coach, Personal Trainer, CrossFit Level 3 Coach, and Functional Movement Trainer leveraging over 25 years of experience in the fitness industry with a diverse client base. Nicole was a gymnast when she was younger and after an injury ended her gymnastics career, she dabbled in bodybuilding before finding CrossFit in 2009. After getting multiple CrossFit certifications (Kettlebell, Gymnastics, Weightlifting, Kids, Striking), she went on to get her CrossFit Level 3. Currently, she is one of only 48 coaches in the state of Virginia to achieve the status as a CrossFit Level 3 certified trainer. Nicole is equipped with strong motivational skills, advanced technical training, in- depth knowledge, and genuine compassion and concern for the health and well- being of others, all of which helps to engage her clients and achieve lasting results. She genuinely believes that “food is medicine” and has witnessed first- hand the impact of nutrition, or lack thereof, on the body.

Nicole was overweight and bullied in her adolescent years and overcame an eating disorder so “has been there” and her experiences have allowed her to relate to and help her clients even more. She also has Celiac Disease, Ehler’s Danlos syndrome (a genetic connective tissue disorder), and IBD and has faced countless associated GI conditions, musculoskeletal injuries, and surgeries, but refuses to let them hold her back. She is most passionate about empowering individuals to become the healthiest, happiest, and most successful versions of themselves and emphatically believes that the foundation of these goals is personalized nutrition and exercise, along with stress reduction and self-care, to sustain both the body and the mind. Nicole is currently finishing a second graduate degree in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine and profoundly believes in the core philosophies at its foundation. Functional Medicine is a patient-centered approach to overall wellness that focuses on the interconnectedness of all body systems. The practitioner considers the root causes of disease and core imbalances as the means to achieve optimal health. Nicole strongly believes that the proper nutrition, exercise, and mindset can provide the impetus for a long-term, sustainable sense of health and well-being. Her “unsexy” secret is that commitment to oneself and consistency, over time, in conjunction with work on one’s habits, way of thinking, and lifestyle, will provide fulfillment and longevity, and also just might help you get that physique you desire =).

FUN FACTS

1. What’s something I would never guess about you?
“Hmm…Hard one…Maybe that I’m a college professor, teach creative writing, and went to School of the Museum of Fine Arts in what I call “my other llfe?” Or perhaps that I was always a little overweight when I was younger and made fun of A LOT.”

2. Would you rather go 30 days without your phone or your entire life without dessert?
“ 30 days without my phone for sure — healthy desserts are life”

3. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
“You are asking a nutritionist this? LOL. I’m too analytical and all I can think about is whether the food had enough macro and micronutrients to properly sustain health and well-being lol
A protein smoothie bowl with many ingredients and toppings so I can have my protein, carbs, fats, omega-3s, fiber, etc.”

4. How much would someone have to pay you to eat a live spider?
“I’ve probably eaten one in my sleep before but I would prefer not to do it awake. I was much more daring when I was younger — not so much now =).”

5. If you joined the circus, what would your circus act be?
“Are there even circuses anymore? Weren’t they outlawed because of cruelty to animals? Haha.

The ringmaster because I’m always trying to make chaos look perfectly coordinated….or juggler because I juggle so many different jobs and school and life”
