What is a CrossFit workout?

Crossfit is a total body strength & conditioning program that focuses on “functional movements”, movements you perform in daily tasks at home, at work, and in sports. Some examples are squatting, getting up and down from the floor, picking up a heavier object from the floor properly, etc.  Workouts are perfect for all fitness levels and are customized by expert Coaches, to individual abilities and goals at every class. Movements are typically performed at a higher intensity and for a shorter time (10-20 minutes) in order to produce visible and measurable results in just a few weeks, compared to a regular gym workout that can take several months or more to see results. 

Is CrossFit good for losing weight?

YES- CrossFit is excellent for weight loss. With interval training and anaerobic exercise, the body uses a higher percentage of fat for energy as opposed to muscle glycogen. Not only does this type of exercise burn more fat and calories, it also increases the calories burned for hours after exercise. Anaerobic exercise combined with the strength training performed in CrossFit workouts also promotes an increase in lean muscle, which in turn leads to an increased metabolic rate and higher fat burning levels all day long, even when not exercising.
